Transparency International New Zealand (TINZ) is a not-for-profit non-partisan member-based organisation incorporated in NZ and part of the global Transparency International movement. As part of its mission to strengthen the role of transparency, accountability and good governance in NZ and the wider Pacific, TINZ manages an NZAID-funded support programme for the TI Pacific chapters. Amongst other issues, the TI Pacific chapters have chosen to focus on civic education as part of their strategic priorities for their countries. TINZ is seeking expressions of interest from appropriately qualified consultants to provide ongoing services to TINZ under this programme.

The consultant will be required to: 

  • Provide technical assistance on planning democracy promotion and good governance activities as part of the long term strategic plans of the Pacific Island chapters of TI. 
  • To give technical assistance on the preparation of project proposals sourcing funding for democracy promotion and good governance projects for the Pacific Island chapters of TI.
  • To give management advice to chapters on the management of democracy promotion and good governance activities.
  • This position involves approximately 55 days of work in-country and 10 days in country of residence.

The ideal candidate would have had at least 5 years international experience working in the democracy promotion and good governance field and should have a first degree in a relevant field as well as secondary postgraduate qualifications in a complementary field. Because of the civic education focus the ideal candidate should have a strong education background and project management experience as well. Knowledge of the culture and politics of Melanesia and Polynesia, and experience in working with civil society groups and donors will be expected as well.
