TINZ Secretariat on Electoral Transparency

TINZ is currently focusing on political finance in New Zealand. With an election due in 2008 this is a live topic. The TINZ approach is based on the views expressed by its members, by global TI policy on political finance, and the views expressed at a TINZ electoral symposium held in June 2007 in conjunction with the Victoria University Institute of Policy Studies.

Symposium Documents

The following papers were either presented at the June symposium or relate to electoral finance in NZ:

Dr Joo-Cheong Tham, "Lessons from a 'relaxed and comfortable' country: Money and politics in Australia (or how not to regulate political finance)".

Gerald McGhie, "Electoral Spending Needs Transparency", article from Dominion Post April 20, 2007.

Sally Young and Joo-Cheong Tham, "Political Finance in Australia: a skewed and secret system".

Recommendations on political finance from the 1986 Royal Commission on the Electoral System.
